What Should I prepare for my initial consult?
Make sure you have finished all of the paperwork prior to your appointment. This helps the therapist get a historical view of you physical and mental health. Try to answer these three questions:
1. What goals do I have for therapy?
2. What medications am I taking?
3. Are you open to working in a more mind & body approach?
How can I start working with you?
I do fifteen minute consultations to go over any questions you may have. Deciding to see a therapist can be frightening but I am here to make the process go as smoothly as possible. Ask yourself if you are ready to take the first step to growth? Therapy can be difficult, but if you are willing to do the work it is very rewarding. I work by giving a lot of homework, but I take an approach where we both work together to make a plan.
Ongoing group therapy ~
I have an ongoing Seeking Safety Group. Seeking safety is a method that aims to help those who struggle with addiction but the root of their addiction is the trauma they have faced in their life. It is a long group and once it has begun it is a closed group.
Why is therapy useful?
Therapy allows you to have a specific amount of time to completely be seen. It allows you to verbalize everything that may be bouncing around in your head, but you are unable to talk about these things in your normal social group. It is a dedicated space for you to be able to work on yourself, with no distractions, and it is a coordination of the body and the mind. In fact, therapy can help reduce the occurrence of Alzheimers'. It is a way to take care of your wellbeing. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/35101105/
